A tragic incident unfolded in Lilapur, Uttar Pradesh, claiming the lives of nine individuals and leaving seven others injured.
About 15 km from the district headquarters, the accident took place on the Lucknow-Varanasi highway, according to Rohit Mishra, Additional Superintendent of Police (West).
The passengers in the van remained trapped inside and locals rushed to extricate them from the vehicle. As soon as the news of the accident came to the fore, a team of police officials also reached the spot of the incident and took the injured to Pratapgarh Medical College Hospital. Of all the injured victims, four women and five men died during transport to the hospital.
As all seven victims were in serious condition, the hospital referred them to Prayagraj SRN.
On the other hand, every effort is being made by the police to establish the identity of the deceased and an autopsy will also be performed on the bodies. An investigation into the accident has also been launched.
